Skin Tags

What Are Skin Tags?

Skin tags are very common soft harmless lesions that appear to hang off the skin.

Also Described As:

  • Acrochordons
  • Papillomas
  • Fibroepithelial polyps
  • Soft fibromas
  • Pedunculated (this means they are on a stalk)

They develop in both men and women as they grow older. They are skin-colored or darker and range in size from 1mm to 5cm. They are most often found in the skin folds (neck, armpits, and groin). They tend to be more numerous in obese persons and in those with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

What Causes Them?

  • It is not known what causes skin tags. However, the following factors may play a role:
  • Chafing and irritation from skin rubbing together
  • High levels of growth factors, particularly during pregnancy or in acromegaly (gigantism)
  • Insulin resistance (syndrome X)

Schedule an appointment with one of our medical providers to see which treatment is best for you.

*Skin tag removal is considered a cosmetic service and is not covered by insurance.

I’ve been seeing Shirien Coover PA for several years. She puts me at ease, protecting my dignity and privacy during skin checks, and she is very soothing and as gentle as possible if/when she finds anything that requires removal. She also patiently answers my questions and genuinely wants me to understand the medical terminology. I also find their rates to be affordable and reasonable, which is rare and refreshing where health care costs are concerned.

“I’ve been coming to Dr.Cadmus for a little over a year now and before that went to Dr. Farrady. Dr Cadmus is really great! I am always able to get into seeing her quickly and she’s very thorough and great at her profession.”

This is the only place that I know of that you can be told that you have cancer, and be at peace about it – Courtney Scarmado and staff are that nice. Sounds weird, since getting bad news is never good. They are professional, and know all about skin and its care. Added bonus: after you get your face frozen off, you can walk over to Milk and Cookies and feel so much better!
